Lisbon, Portugal Day 1

Lisbon, Portugal | Day 1
Today’s travel started in Louisville, Kentucky (SDF Airport). Once everyone checked in, we hit the ground running with our first lesson.  We completed a quick survey designed to measure our individual cultural preferences related to fixed vs. fluid time.  Though engaging dialogue we learned about our preferences and how others perceive our cultural preferences. Upon completion of the lesson, we quickly boarded the flight to Philadelphia, which connected to Lisbon Portugal.

After a 5 1/2 hour overnight flight, the plane arrived in Lisbon 2 hours early.

Our early arrival allowed time for breakfast and a quick tour of the city. A guided bus tour provided narratives of famous Portuguese sites.

We visited the Belem Tower located on the right bank of the Tagus River and a number of other important historical sites in Lisbon.

Marty presented our first staff ride at “Padrão dos Descobrimentos,; a monument built in honor of Henry the Navigator. The presentation examined the background, leadership characteristics, and cultural implications of Henry the Navigator’s reign.  After the staff ride, we decided to have dinner at a local restaurant.
The restaurant offered a very nice Portuguese buffet. Some key  food items included:  salad, salsa vinaigrette, olives, pasta, green beans, roast beef, and pork roast. Needless to say, the food was delicious!  After dinner, we decided to head back to the hotel and get some rest for tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
